What is a facelift?
Over time, the face changes—but those changes don’t always reflect how you feel inside. A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that redefines facial contours by lifting and tightening tissues that have lost firmness, helping you achieve a more youthful and natural appearance.
This procedure targets visible signs of aging in the mid and lower face, including sagging cheeks, deep nasolabial folds, loss of jawline definition, fat accumulation under the chin, and loose skin along the neck. It remains one of the most effective and long-lasting options for facial rejuvenation.
Dr. César López has extensive experience in various facelift techniques and will recommend the best approach based on your anatomy, facial aging, and aesthetic goals.
The surgery lasts approximately 3 to 4 hours, is performed under local anesthesia with sedation, and requires an overnight hospital stay. Initial recovery takes about 15 days, and final results are typically seen around 6 months after the procedure.
- Requirements: Complete blood count, coagulation times, blood chemistry. Cardiac evaluation is required for patients over 50 years old.
- Postoperative care: Driving should be avoided for the first 24 hours. LED light therapy is recommended, and direct sun exposure should be avoided to protect the treated skin and promote proper healing.

We're here to help. Send us your questions and our team will respond clearly and carefully. Your comfort, safety and peace of mind are important to us.
What's the difference between a small facelift and a full facelift?
A mini facelift focuses on the lower part of the face and is less invasive, suitable for the first signs of aging. A full face lift treats deeper tissues and more advanced laxity for longer-lasting results. Dr. Lopez will determine which approach is right for you.
When can I return to work or social activities?
Most patients resume light activities within 7 to 10 days and return to social or work life by the third week, depending on healing and confidence, with swelling or bruising.
How long do the results last?
The results usually last 8 to 12 years. As you age, you'll always look younger than if you hadn't had the procedure. Maintenance procedures can help prolong results.
Will I look different after a facelift?
You'll look like a younger, more rested version of yourself, not like someone else. Dr. López's goal is to restore, not transform. Your friends may notice that you look “refreshed” without realizing that the surgery was done.
Will facelift scars be visible?
Incisions are placed in strategic and discreet areas, typically around the hairline and behind the ears, so that scars remain well concealed. Over time, they gradually fade and usually become barely noticeable—especially when postoperative care instructions are properly followed.
